About me

Hi there!

I am so glad you have come to check out my profile! My name is Lizzie, I'm 19 and I'm currently studying English Literature at Durham University. When it comes to English, it can really be one of those subjects that is just so hard to get right and I was one of those people who just wasn't able to hit the nail on the head when it came to English exams.

However, due to the support I received as well as my own personal determination, I managed to come out of school with grades I am proud of and now I am able to pass on what I learnt in the process.

In 2017, I volunteered at a school in my home town where I worked with children levelled at 11 plus - a programme designed to defeat the problem of overcrowded classrooms. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this and learnt many skills helping to improve literacy in the process.

This summer, I am travelling to China to teach English for a month whilst gaining a TEFL certification. I know that this opportunity it will only improve my ability to tutor those on this platform even further - especially if you're from another country requiring English lessons.

I can offer help with preparation for GCSE's, coursework, and revision. I can also help those who are younger, looking for guidance in essential writing, reading and grammar skills.

Thank you for reading and do get in touch if this appeals to you!

Lizzie :)

11 & 13 plus

At this stage, it is important for students to set out goals for certain areas in which they'd like to improve in an allocated time frame. I would start off lessons by ascertaining these and choosing alongside the student the ways in which we could do this together. I would then look over exercises in preparation or even construct my own specifically based on the student's requirements. I can construct small quizzes to suit abilities and look over work in between sessions to offer feedback for the next one. As lessons proceed, it it is effective to revisit certain areas of difficulty in order for them to remain familiar in a student's mind and for their original goals to be met. At the end of the session, together, we will reflect on the session and see what could be focused next time or perhaps what may need to be revised again.

GCSE

I would base lessons around going through 'model' answers, discussing how planned responses can be the most effective and how to do this and how to include the needed 'ingredients' for a student's own written responses. It is effective to run through revision techniques when it comes to the specific nature of help that the student needs in order for them to effectively write strong and coherent responses in a timed condition. I am quite familiar with a lot of the nationwide set texts for English GCSE.
