About me

Anything mathematical, scientific, philosophical or a combination of all 3 is right up my street. I love solving problems. I am currently enrolled in a Computer Science degree, which is full of math and has science in the name! I wanted to become a tutor for two reasons; I love learning and I love teaching.

I understand the stress of exams and I think math and science cause the most grief. My own experience was certainly stress-filled! However, with the right skills, there isn't anything to be scared of and math/science can actually be really fun and creative. Hopefully I can help you see this side too.

About my sessions

I haven’t always been good at mathematics and the sciences. It took a shift in the way I think about what makes someone a good mathematician or scientist. I haven’t always been good at mathematics and the sciences. It took a shift in the way I think about what makes someone a good mathematician or scientist. For me, it is important that these subjects allow room for creativity in a way that is often neglected in the classroom. When it comes to improving your skills, nothing is more important than practice. However, practicing exam style questions can get pretty boring quickly. While this approach has some benefits, its much better to practice more general (and interesting) problems. Not only will this boost confidence, you may even discover a new kind of math you really enjoy.

In our first lesson, we will begin by assessing your strengths and weaknesses. We will do this together by talking through common issues and difficulties you may be having. Next, I would ask to run through a few examples with you. With this as a foundation, we can focus on the biggest challenges while still building your strengths.

As we progress, each session would follow a ‘learning objective’. After each session, you should have a firm grasp of new topics. This will be supported by both homework from school and extensions given to you from me. I will design these for you, to worked on between sessions and we will review each one.

Most importantly, I will never move on unless you are completely confident with what we have just covered.
