About me

My love for all things Spanish has never faltered. Having studied it for 5 years (and counting thanks to my post A-level university studies), partaken in a 2-week exchange to Galicia, as well as on a study trip to Salamanca, my love for Spanish only grew. I aim to engage in the language daily, whether through conversations with Hispanic members of staff, friends, or expanding my vocabulary through synonyms and local articles. Resulting from my dedication, experience and love for the language, I hope to provide an alternate perspective to students that differs from their teachers. Above all, I hope to convey the same passion towards my students as was bestowed upon me during my struggles with the language. This, I hope, to helps to reassure the student that vast improvement is something achievable (where I moved from a C grade in year 12 to an A grade in my final exams). As a result, I strongly believe passion, dedication and hard work will prove an irresistible combination into giving my students the best chance of success.

About my sessions

I hope to provide an environment where mistakes are seen as progress. For, in a language, you either get it right, or you learn. To facilitate this, I shall listen to any areas of concern the student has, providing tailor made sessions. This will allow me to prepare for further sessions, such as searching for topic vocab, or devising creative explanations for common areas of Spanish. For example, if a student was struggling with the past tense, I'd run through the tense itself, and construct fun examples in order to test their retention. This could consist of choosing the right ending for a verb in a sentence, or being asked to conjugate it. Here, progression can be measured in terms of memory, where I hope to encourage practice outside the session through providing links to helpful websites.

I further aim to help the student take advantage of being in contact with a fellow Spanish speaker. I'd hope to ask questions relating to their studies, but also engaging in differing topics of conversation in order to practice their oral skills more generally. Above all, I'll provide golden nuggets from my experiences in Spain, such as colloquial phrases, which can be used at will in order to impress the examiner. Progress in this sense can be measured in the quality of conversation we have as the weeks go on. Here, I will encourage the student to try and speak Spanish every day (such as explaining something to a loved one in the language).
