I'm a well-rounded student with a passion for both humanities and science. I am studying English at university, but I also love Biology and Chemistry and am fascinated by the world we live in. I wanted to study English for a very long time, and now that I have achieved my goal I want to hep others to achieve theirs! My experiences of sitting exams have taught me that exams do not have to be intimidating, but an opportunity to show my knowledge and hard work. Spreading enthusiasm for learning is central to my attitude towards tutoring - genuine interest in a subject makes success in exams so much more rewarding. I therefore want to encourage students' own passions for their subjects, by helping them engage with their subjects beyond the curriculum. I would not have gone on to study English if I had not read Harry Potter at the age of eleven!

I love drama and ice skating. Drama is a great way for me to meet new people and work together on a big project, and ice skating allows me to challenge my brain and body outside of the classroom. I would really encourage students to engage in extracurricular activities, such as sport and music, especially during revision and exam season. Such activities are excellent for relieving and reducing stress, as well as providing structured breaks from all that hard work studying. I believe that striking the right balance between extra-curricular hobbies and studying can have a powerful positive effect on students' achievements.

Each lesson will be tailored specifically to each individual student and their needs. After establishing what the student aims to achieve, I will consult the exam board specification and organise lessons around core aspects of the syllabus. Lessons are not organised in isolation; they will complement the course of learning in schools and individual lessons will contribute to an overarching plan of achievement. It is therefore important to establish goals for each individual lesson, the series of lessons and long-term goals such as exam results. Before each lesson, we will briefly review the previous lesson's content and discuss the student's confidence in that area before moving on to the next topic. There will always be flexibility incorporated into each lesson if revision of a previous topic is necessary.

Areas beyond the syllabus that I think are important to address are exam technique and fostering interest in the subject. Encouraging enthusiasm will inevitably be a central aspect of my tutoring style, and I will recommend avenues for further development of subject-specific interests (e.g. recommendations for books, French music etc.). Exam technique is also very important and is an essential aspect of performing to one's best ability in examinations. I can offer lessons specific to exam technique in which we will go through past papers, mark schemes and examiners' reports, as well as incorporating general exam advice throughout the course of lessons.
