About me

Hello! I'm Maddie and I study Psychology, with a year-long placement, at the University of Bath. I love psychology because it accounts for everything - from babies to adults, from normal to extraordinary behaviour. It can also be applied and really help people who are suffering from troubled mental health in a clinical setting - in my opinion, this is just as important as physical wellness.

I love psychology because it accounts for everything - from babies to adults, from normal to extraordinary behaviour. It can also be applied and really help people who are suffering from troubled mental health in a clinical setting - in my opinion, this is just as important as physical wellness.

I found GCSEs hard, and A-levels were even tougher. However, through staying strict and regimented with myself, I got above and beyond the grades I needed for University! Exams can seem daunting but with the right support they are completely do-able. My guidance can range from supporting the first steps into a new course, to staying motivated when preparing for exams, to remaining calm during exam season. It is also very important to have somebody to vent to about exam stress or worries - having gone through the same experience only a couple of years ago, I completely empathise with you!

I also have experience in mentoring before joining MyTutor last year. I worked for a year providing one-on-two help for autistic children in a special needs school, and I also mentored younger students one-on-one who were struggling when I was in sixth form. In the last academic year, my previous students achieved the grades they needed for acceptance to university! Anyone can succeed with the right guidance and support - seek help early!

About my sessions

My online lessons are all about the customer. Often, customers request help on specific topics, or consolidation of the whole course over a period of weeks or months. Whatever it is they feel they need help with, I can mold and adapt to that structure.

My online lessons are all about the customer. Often, customers request help on specific topics, or consolidation of the whole course over a period of weeks or months. Whatever it is they feel they need help with, I can mold and adapt to that structure.

I start lessons by signposting what we will be covering over the lesson, and what we aim to have achieved by the end of the session. The main part of the lesson is flexible depending on the customer's needs. Covering the required content always comes first, followed by consolidation activities; in the past, I have designed fill-in-the-gap activities, flashcards for a particular topic, or sometimes going through past paper questions (which may be less fun!) is just as effective. Once this main part of the lesson is complete, I always ask the student to update me on how confident they feel now, compared to how they felt before our lesson - I encourage honesty when completing self-evaluations. This will help me to plan next week's lesson if they feel they need to stay with this topic for a while, or if I believe they can move on to something a little harder next session.

I think the key to being motivated to learn is wanting to succeed - I wanted to get into my university, and that was what led me to work so hard. To encourage learning I will ask and remind about their plans for the future. If they have a goal to reach then we can work towards it together!
