I believe that getting the best results requires a strong understanding, not only of the syllabus content but also of the context in which these topics arise. Whilst it is important to ensure you have an in-depth knowledge of the content of the course, it is also important to understand the marking criteria and how examiners give out marks. However, more than anything it is important to have a genuine interest and enthusiasm in the subject which inevitably leads to better grades. I hope that I will be able to provide students with this interest as well as the knowledge and skills they need to meet their goals.

About my sessions

Generally, my lessons will be split in half.

The first half of the lesson will focus on content that the student has learnt in class, asking questions and ensuring a good understanding of the main concepts. This is a good opportunity for students to clarify anything they do not fully understand, or want to develop their understanding of. The first half of the lesson will focus on content that the student has learnt in class, asking questions and ensuring a good understanding of the main concepts. This is a good opportunity for students to clarify anything they do not fully understand, or want to develop their understanding of. Also, this allows me to offer a point of view on the subject which may be different from their teacher's, and any additional information which would increase their understanding of the concept.

The second half will focus on revision and exam strategies. These may be general tips, but more likely they will focus on the specific content discussed in that particular session. This involves looking at past exam papers and types of questions that may be asked, discussing how these would be answered and identifying which points get higher marks with reference to the marking criteria. Also, this gives me a chance to provide the student with revision tips that worked for me, as well as time management and essay structuring tips to help them make the most of their limited time in exam conditions.

The lesson will generally end with any questions the student may have and potentially planning for the next session if they do not feel 100% confident about any particular issue.
