About me

Hello, my name is Robyn and I am friendly Physics student at the University of Birmingham! I chose to study Physics because it is such a broad and fascinating subject. I study all areas from particles to electricity and so much more. It is a very maths based degree, which is enjoy because I like maths, however this can be very challenging at times! I have taken many exams during my education so far and still have many to take in the future, so over this time I feel that I have developed some effective tactics that have helped me to succeed. When it comes to tutoring, I would like to make the student feel relaxed and comfortable with asking questions, and to not be scared of getting things wrong. I want to build their confidence up over time so that exams don't feel as daunting, and mainly help them to learn the skills that they need. For me, the most important aspect of revision was completing lots of practice questions and past papers to really prepare me for what would appear on my exams. I will therefore use this a lot in my tutoring sessions.

About my sessions

I would like to ask the student in advance what areas/ topics that they would like to cover in particular. For example it may be what they are studying at school at that moment. I would like to ask the student in advance what areas/ topics that they would like to cover in particular. For example it may be what they are studying at school at that moment. I would then prepare lots of information in advance for the session, and then during I would explain the topic to the student and start to go over some example questions to show what they could be asked. We would then start to work through a couple of questions together to try and increase their understanding. When the student feels comfortable i would then ask them to try and answer a question on their own, which we would go through the solution to afterwards. To really solidify their understanding, I would set some practice questions for them to answer in their own time, and we would then go through the answers in the next session. I would like to gradually increase the difficulty level by starting off with very basic examples and slowly moving up to challenging questions when they are ready. My main aim is to make sure that the student feels comfortable with asking me as many questions as they want to, and to not feel embarrassed for not understanding something first time. Students can also email me at any time in the week with questions or with topics that they would like to go over and I will try to get back to them as soon as possible.

Robyn has guided my son through many revision sessions across the sciences and maths. She has patiently worked with a somewhat reluctant learner, and has really helped to prepare him for the challenge of GCSEs. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
