About me

I'm in my first year of studying Economics with German at the University of Nottingham. Economics is the major component of my degree and so far, it has been thoroughly enjoyable! The freedom to choose your own specific areas of study has allowed me to focus on themes such as development economics that interest me the most. There is also a strong element of maths to the subject, which is always something I have been keen on. Furthermore, it has been rewarding to continue learning the Germ...

Furthermore, it has been rewarding to continue learning the German language and I'm really looking forward to putting this into use in my year abroad in third year. I applied to university in late 2017 and received offers from the University of Nottingham, UCL, Bristol and Loughborough. I then sat my A levels last summer and started at Nottingham in September. I had a lot of support with the application process in sixth form, when I attended King Edward VI Grammar School. I feel really lucky to have had such guidance, so I'd love to give back by helping students get to where they want to go. Especially as I’ve had such a great experience of higher education so far. At uni, I play netball for the Nottingham Economics and Finance Society and I am a member of the Vegetarian & Vegan Society, for which I have recently applied for the role of treasurer. I also enjoy playing other sports leisurely such as badminton and squash, and I regularly use the gym with my friends.

About my sessions

I plan to deliver structured and organised online lessons as this will ensure that the time is used most efficiently. I plan to deliver structured and organised online lessons as this will ensure that the time is used most efficiently. Each session will most likely focus on one topic, either one that the student is currently being taught or a previous one that seemed particularly challenging. I believe that tutoring every student is a different experience as the focus of the session depends on that student’s needs. Therefore, a proportion of the lesson will be dedicated to answering any questions and also deciding what aspects should be covered in following lessons. My aim is to encourage students to believe in their own ability and to make their learning experience interesting and rewarding. Throughout my entire education I have seen the extent to which struggling with the pressure of exams affects mental health, so I find it so important that students have an opportunity to gain extra support where it is needed. As a student who has been through most stages of education, I know which learning techniques can be most effective, such as going through examples step by step. Furthermore, it is always productive to handwrite notes, which I will encourage the student to do throughout the session. I will also provide mini tests throughout the process to ensure that the content is being well absorbed. These will be based on previous exam questions, as I have always experienced that this is the best way to ensure revision has been successful.

Jodie is a gifted, excellent tutor and I highly recommend her. My daughter was struggling with economics A Level, despite having the best books. Jodie explained concepts to her, ensuring that she understood, this gave Alexandra so much confidence in her exams. Thank you so much Jodie!
