About me

A bit about myself and the subjects I tutor:

I am an enthusiastic, curious and friendly student at the university of Edinburgh. I am currently studying English Literature & History of Art. I have always been passionate about what drives the creative side of people, and how their cultural background (including the languages they speak) have influenced their works.

One of the reasons I enjoy English literature is because of its broadness. English literature does not merely consist of words, instead, it encompasses history, philosophy, politics, psychology and more! I hope to be able to share my enthusiasm for the subject with you.

As for Portuguese and Spanish, I have had the opportunity to travel quite a bit during my childhood. During this travels I lived in England Brazil and Spain. As a result I am fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese, and love practicing these languages!

Tutorial structures:

The tutorial structure is up to you! I hope to be able to discuss with you where your difficulties lie and how we might tackle them. Meanwhile, I can give you a broad overview and a few suggestions about what might be tackled during the tutrorial sessions:

English Literature:

- Make sure that the learning objectives set out by the exam board are well understood.

- Discuss themes within a play/novel/poem.

- Discuss specific chapters that are not fully understood.

- Analyse quotations (i.e. look at the techniques used by the author, and the effects these might have on a present audience/reader and the effects these might have had on the audience/reader of the time in which it was written).

- Have a look at the contextual background of the author, and look at how this might influence their writing.

- Discuss critical readings (i.e. what other people have written about the text in question).

- Break down essay questions to make sure they are understood.

- Plan essays.

- Ensure exam board assessment objectives are well understood.

- Go over past questions, especially those relating to translation (exam boards can be quite tricky with these questions!)

- Set out themes for oral exam practice.

- Work on verb tenses where necessary.

- Break down essay questions, and look at key vocabulary.

- Plan essays.
