About me

I am a second year student of Biomedical Sciences at King’s College London, which means I am mainly deepening my knowledge of the inner workings of the human body. Biology and chemistry fascinate me, as they are able to unveil profound truths about our surrounding reality as well as provide explanations for everyday phenomena which we take for granted. Being able to understand even a fraction of the harmonious yet unimaginatively complex processes occurring in our organism on the cellular or molecular level every moment gives me immense satisfaction. I often feel that at secondary school level, this wonderful aspect of studying science-related subjects is overshadowed by the stress associated with exams or simply by poor teachers, who instead of prioritising instilling their pupils with of a feeling of excitement for science tend to terrorise their students with grades and bore them with dry facts. Through MyTutor I would like to be able to offer the kind of teaching experience that I would have appreciated at secondary school.

About my sessions

In providing the best possible experience for my students I would like to, firstly, assure a stress-free environment in which the student will not be scared of his or her level of knowledge of a subject or to ask questions. For this reason I will try and make the learning process fun and exciting by approaching the given topic as if we are combating the mysteries of biology together. Secondly, I will want to determine where the student’s greatest weaknesses lie and concentrate on those areas...

Secondly, I will want to determine where the student’s greatest weaknesses lie and concentrate on those areas especially, using creative and original methods to drive the lesson home. In my opinion we all are especially good at remembering visually stimulating information, which is why I would like to use the whiteboard in the lesson space to its fullest potential, utilising diagrams and images to reinforce the knowledge taught. Lastly, I personally have benefited most in my exam preparations from applying the Feynman’s technique, which involves trying to explain the topic you are studying to a friend or family member. I will want to introduce this technique to my students by first going through the topic together before challenging the student to try and explain it back to me, all the while correcting his mistakes and using the opportunity to gauge where there are still gaps in the student’s understanding. This should significantly boost the student's confidence in his knowledge of the given subject.

He's helped me with my biology IA tremendously. He really dedicates a lot of time and effort to ensure that you are able to effectively understand any feedback, and the feedback itself reflects the same quality :)
