About me

I am currently a third year Psychology and Criminology joint honours student at the University of Southampton. I thoroughly enjoyed psychology at A level and, having achieved an A after lots of hard work, I wanted to study it at a higher level with BPS accreditation. I worked very hard in college to be able achieve good grades and having been a mentor I wanted to carry this on in a more professional manner. I thoroughly enjoyed psychology at A level and, having achieved an A after lots of hard work, I wanted to study it at a higher level with BPS accreditation. I worked very hard in college to be able achieve good grades and having been a mentor I wanted to carry this on in a more professional manner. I often learn best when I am able to discuss my subjects out loud, planning essays or teaching someone else, but I am aware there are so many different ways to learn so within the sessions I run I will work with the student to discover how they learn best.

Through my higher education I have gained many transferable skills, especially across the fields I have chosen to tutor in; all of these need a good understanding of essay writing, analysis and evaluation. These skills are found on all mark schemes and would be a focus of my sessions. Applying to university can be a very intimidating time, but when approached with a plan there is nothing to be afraid of, I had to do a lot of thinking before I submitted my application and I am happy to discuss my own experiences if a student is interested to would like some guidance. As I wasn’t sure what exact subject to choose or which university to attend at first, I did a lot of research. I would love to be able to help students who felt just like I did when I had to go through the same exciting process.

About my sessions

Within my tutoring sessions I aim to give students short-term goals, a new skill, or a better understanding of a concept and overall help develop their writing style. I will personalise sessions to the student by providing small quizzes or practice questions based on their specific topics and help them with any questions they may have with the homework they are being set at school or college. I am a good listener and I am prepared to work at the pace of the student, I will put in as much work...

I am a good listener and I am prepared to work at the pace of the student, I will put in as much work as is necessary for them to gain confidence in their ability and achieve the best grades possible.

Many students, including myself, do not always learn the first time around in the classroom and it takes a lot of different approaches to learning and repeating knowledge in order to be able to apply yourself effectively to an exam or coursework question. This is why I would aim to help the student fully understand the content of their subject so that any question that may arise in an exam is an easy task with the base knowledge they develop.

By giving my students a friendly and focused space to learn, I aim to be able to provide both students and/or parents with a sense of organisation and confidence.

Aimee didn’t just teach me skills and knowledge to prepare me for my exam, she also gave me confidence and self belief, making me feel I can do my best and achieve what I wish. I’m very grateful for what she’s done for me and would recommend her to anyone struggling with A-Level Psychology

Aimee was really helpful, not only with content, but also with extra handouts, which meant that I did not have to take notes while she was explaining me. She also provided me with a series of exam questions and how I should structure each one of them.
