Hello, my name is Elias and I’m an undergraduate studying Mathematics and Finance BSc (Honors).Having studied Maths as one of my main subjects throughout High School, I have had a lot of experience with the various challenges that come along with the discipline. Personally, I never felt I was naturally gifted with an intuitive understanding of mathematical concepts, but I was drawn toward the subject by a love for intellectual challenges. I truly believe anyone can do well in Maths by working hard and tailoring their learning to meet their needs. As a tutor, I will do my best to ensure my sessions are well-suited to differing styles of learning.

As a former leader of activities such as Model United Nations, I have gained valuable skills in teaching pupils and articulating my thoughts clearly. This, I believe, will enhance the learning experience in my tutorials. Especially in a subject like mathematics, it’s particularly important that one understands not only the solutions, but the thinking process that underpins them. Hence, I will always do my best to thoroughly explain what’s going through my head when advocating a certain approach to a question. Hopefully, students will benefit from these tutorials and come to view the beauty of mathematics, just as I have, from overcoming initial challenges posed by the subject.

About my sessions

I would like to be as prepared as possible in order to provide the most useful help during the lesson. Thus, I believe the “Meet the Tutor” session is vital for us to determine your specific needs and expectations. This may include the topics you want me to cover and the extent to which your curriculum requires you to know about the topic. As a former Higher Level I.B. Maths student, the I.B. curriculum is what I will be most familiar with, but of course mathematics isn’t called the universal...

Maths student, the I.B. curriculum is what I will be most familiar with, but of course mathematics isn’t called the universal language for nothing, so I will happily gain the necessary familiarity in whatever curriculum you are learning. Obviously, if you do not have a strong preference with respect to the aforementioned things, then I’m happy to proceed with my lesson material and we can figure out our focus as we go along.

Furthermore, to measure progress, I would recap what we did in the previous tutorial or ask you what you remember from last time to ensure long-term retention of the material. In a subject like math, where many topics link together, I don’t foresee this as a big issue. Additionally, I will happily assign, mark and go through homework if that is what you are looking for. I would also like the tutorials to be as interactive as possible with the tutee, so please interrupt me if anything is unclear, and I will periodically ask for your input in solving a question.
