About me

Hi!

I'm Laura and I am a first year economics student at the University of Bath. I come from Spain but I have been brought up in a british school. I did my A-Levels last year and I have done tutoring for the last two years.

I am a very friendly person and will be hoping to achieve excellence through dynamic learning. I strongly believe in hard work and discipline, but also think learning should be fun! My main goal as a teacher is to make sure students become interested in subjects they would never think they were interested in, that way learning about it will be easier and much smoother.

What subjects do I teach? - I will be teaching Spanish, Economics and Maths up to A level and Physics up to IGCSE. These where the A-Levels I took myself.

Way of teaching - Enganging students in interactive excercices is the key to achieving good results, asking questions and working together will help you achieve the highest grades.

As an student myself I am well awear that some subjects can be boring and that struggling through a module can be tough, but I am here to help so please get in touch and lets get those A's and A*'s going!

Questions Laura has answered

What is the most common measure of inequality and what is inequality itself?

Inequality is present in income, opportunity and wealth amongst others. Income inequality is the most common form of inequality and it takes into consideration the difference in incomes amongst individuals in a country. For example, everyone that lives in your neighbourhood does not earn the same amount of money and this creates income inequality. Income inequality is a problem that arises specially in developed countries where the difference between the rich and the poor is more than evident. The US is one of the countries with more income inequality.

The most common measure of income inequality is the Gini Coefficent. this is a number between 0 and 1. The value 0 corresponds to a perfectly equal economy, where all individuals have equal disposable incomes. On the contrary, the value of 1 corresponds to the most extreme cases of inequality. The latest value of the Gini coefficent for the UK is 0.34.
