Degree: MMath (Hons) Mathematics (Masters) - St. Andrews Unversity University
I am a second year mathematics student studying at the University of Saint Andrews. I have always had a passion for maths from a young age, and am always trying to broaden my knowledge of the subject. Hopefully during our turorials I can convey this passion to you!
My current interests are in both pure and applied maths, in particular Dynamical Systems and Fractal Geometry, although I do have some knowledge of statistics as well.
I am patient, and will never judge you for not knowing something. There really is no such thing as a silly question!
My tutoring experience:
During high school I tutored Higher and Advanced Higher pupils. I have a very good knowledge of these courses, having sat both of these exams.
I also ran a weekly session for talented students in S1-3 (Year 7-9) where we would look at difficult problems from outwith the taught curriculum. In particular, problems similar to those in the UK Maths Trust Challenge and the Junior Maths Olympiad, which I participated in, in 2010.
I'm a keen runner, specialising in distances of 800m and 1500m, and an athletics coach. My greatest honour to date is winning a silver medal in the Scottish Universities championships in 2016 and being selected to represent Scottish Unis at the Celtic International.
I also volunteer for the British Red Cross.
The material I cover in our tutorials will very much be guided by you. I will first ensure you have a good grasp of the concepts, before moving on to covering more difficult examples; reflective of what you can expect in an exam.
Everyone learns maths differently, so I will use several different techniques of teaching. As I get to know you better, I will tailor my teaching methods to what suits you best.
What I offer:
Scottish Qualifications: National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Mathematics and Statistics
English Qualifications: GCSE, AS/A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics (Please specify exam board)
Preparation for university: Some topics are not covered in all school courses but are assumed knowlege at many universities. These include hyperbolic functions, Taylor series and L'Hopital's rule. I can offer sessions to cover these.
Sadly I cannot offer mentoring for STEP.
For any other qualifications please feel free to ask and I will let you know if I can help you.
