About me

I am currently studying English Literature with World Literature's at the University of Manchester. I spent my gap year training at the Royal Exchange Theatre and spent my teens working on screen productions, both in front of and behind the camera. The arts, specifically English, Drama, and Media, are something I am incredibly passionate about and have always enjoyed studying and practising.

I spent my gap year training at the Royal Exchange Theatre and spent my teens working on screen productions, both in front of and behind the camera. The arts, specifically English, Drama, and Media, are something I am incredibly passionate about and have always enjoyed studying and practising.

When it comes to GCSE’s and A-Levels I completely understand, and have been through, the stress of revision, essay writing, exams and approaches to texts. I remember finding revision incredibly difficult at GCSE and at A-Level and had to work extremely hard to understand my courses and subjects to achieve the grades I did. I am confident that I can help students going preparing for exams and those who are struggling with the content of their courses. I am more than capable to give advice and guidance on applying to universities, from understanding how courses are presented and how to understand the entry requirements to constructing personal statements and how to go about choosing which universities would be best.

At the University of Manchester I am part of the hiking, climbing, literature, and drama societies and also helped found ‘Switch_MCR Theatre Company’, where we create and workshop new work and develop skills beneficial to a career in the arts.

About my sessions

I don’t believe a tutor can give the same lessons to all students, this is why I will create a unique lesson plan individual to each student so we know exactly what we’re working on and why. The benefit of tutoring is the personalised guidance and chance to explore ideas outside the classroom in a comfortable environment; I aim to give sessions in which the student and the tutor both feel comfortable, productive and engaged to ensure you get the best quality tutoring I can give.

When revising for my A-levels, something I found useful was producing a ‘skeleton essay’, a piece of writing that hits all the mark scheme points and is applicable to any question, the student then only needs to layer their knowledge over to get the best grade possible with the assurance that they’re hitting the mark scheme criteria with their essays. I don’t believe that tutors should have to set ‘homework’ tasks, if students wish for any extra work then it will of course be provided but I am of the belief that we can explore the content of the course in our sessions and that homework should only be set by their school teachers. I do not wish to add any extra work or stress onto student’s already busy schedules.

In sessions we’ll have individual targets, decided by the tutor and student; I will work with pupils to create a ‘skeleton essay’; we will have time to discuss texts, explore and improve writings, and to address any concerns or areas that aren’t fully understood.
