About me

I am currently studying History at the University of Bristol, alongside taking modules in English Literature, and I am on track for a first. I feel the reason as to why I have engaged with my subject so much at University is because I truly am fascinated by it. What excites me about both History and English is their potential to produce a new story depending on the way in which one looks at the event or text, which for me, makes both subjects endlessly interesting. I feel the reason as to why I have engaged with my subject so much at University is because I truly am fascinated by it. What excites me about both History and English is their potential to produce a new story depending on the way in which one looks at the event or text, which for me, makes both subjects endlessly interesting. I feel as though relentless exams can take away from the enjoyment of a subject, which is why I think that effective revision with achievable goals, that can be helped by tutoring, brings the enjoyment back to a subject. When I was at school, I struggled with making revision seem more manageable, and often got overwhelmed with the amount of content than can come with both History and English. However, by refining my goals and setting manageable amounts of revision each day, I was able to break down the revision I needed to do into a way where I could envision myself completing it, which really helped with my motivation to revise. At University, I take part in a voluntary service which attends local schools each week to assist in English classes, therefore I feel as though my role as a tutor is improving each week.

About my sessions

In order to make the most of the session, I think pre-preparing which topics we are going to go through before hand is extremely useful. In doing this, I can prepare notes or relevant materials which I could send to you, which can also aid and focus discussion within the session. Another benefit of pre-preparing topics is that it sets out a timeline of goals, with us being able to plan which topics we want to cover and when. I find that setting weekly goals of which topics I want to revise really helped motivate me and organise my revision, and I would strongly recommend it. I think with both History, revising events chronologically is the most effective, as it gives one an idea of the scope of the topic, whilst making it easier to remember dates and the context in which a particular event took place. For English, revising thematically is often very useful, as it draws the text together and allows one to cherry pick relevant scenes to include within an exam setting.
