About me

Hello, my name is Evelyn and I am a recent graduate of the University of Oxford with a First-Class Honours degree in History of Art. Hello, my name is Evelyn and I am a recent graduate of the University of Oxford with a First-Class Honours degree in History of Art. Following an internship at Waddesdon Manor (National Trust, Rothschild Foundation) I am now researching and preparing for my masters next year, while also undertaking a number of paid commissions as a practising painter and printmaker. I absolutely loved my degree at Oxford and was so surprised by the scope of the field and the interdisciplinary nature of the subject. History of Art encompasses many modes of study including, History, Anthropology, Archaeology, English Literature, and Philosophy. It is a unique and ill-defined discipline which can make it seem a little daunting. I am passionate about making art history more accessible to students as I had little or no information about it as I attended a state school in the North East of England. I really enjoyed my time as a tutor and ambassador during the UNIQ Summer School programme in Oxford, introducing students to the ways in which we can begin to look and analyse visual material. I am very enthusiastic about these discussions and seldom do they feel like a laborious chore - rather an exciting investigation. I hope to replicate the techniques of teaching my tutors at Oxford employed during our tutorials to help my students become more independent learners.

About my sessions

For History of Art Oxbridge preparation I shall not only be able to assist in thinking about the personal statements and written work, but shall encourage practicing to speak out loud about visual material. Using the interactive learning space, I will be prepared with a series of images that the student will not have seen before and we will engage in a discussion about them, enacting a tutorial at Oxford or a potential interview experience. This will greatly improve the student's confidence about developing a vocabulary to speak about art as well as key visual problem-solving skills. I can also help to shed light on the myths surrounding the Oxbridge interviews. For A- level tutorials I shall help the students with their essay technique and the ways in which to construct a good argument. Most importantly I shall be using examples and writers, that shall be beyond the A-level syllabus, taken from my university experience. This should facilitate students to secure the top grades. For A-level Art, in which I achieved full marks, I am very aware that there are many components which are assessed. Therefore I will dedicate time to discussing the presentation and written work of the sketchbooks as well as advice about the theoretical and practical aspects of creating final outcomes. Students are expected to produce a great deal of work, so I will provide advice on how to work efficiently, focusing energy on the most important aspects of the course.
