About me

Hello!

I'm Oscar, and I'm currently a medical student in my second year of study at the University of Bristol. I find myself in that position because I believe that medicine offers me the opportunity to be constantly challenged and stimulated, whilst allowing me to help people and learn through my career. I'm an enthusiastic learner and teacher, with experience as a teaching assistant in both primary and secondary schools.

As a medical student, I'm in the unusual position of being able to offer help preparing for medical school exams and interviews. I took both BMAT and UKCAT, and was lucky enough to do well in both, as well as at interview!

I'm a member of a number of various performing arts societies at university, with a keen interest in drama and music. I'm also a member of the judo society, and like to play video games, for what it's worth. I like to teach according to how each student feels most comfortable: I have a relaxed, conversational style, and I like to foster interest and understanding on top of simple knowledge, because I believe that those are better tools for learning and success.

In tutoring you (or the person on whose behalf you're looking), I would like to help you acquire and consolidate skills and knowledge that will of course help you through exams, but also be useful through your school years and eventually carry you into the years beyond.

About my sessions

In tutoring you, your child, or whoever else you might be looking here for, I would tailor each lesson based on what was needed on the day. I think it's important to ask about any new concerns or areas that need looking over in each session so as to allow all of a student's needs to be met. I like to operate on flexible lesson plans built around areas of study, going over all of their components until we find one that presents a difficulty - once that area has been identified, we can...

In tutoring you, your child, or whoever else you might be looking here for, I would tailor each lesson based on what was needed on the day. I think it's important to ask about any new concerns or areas that need looking over in each session so as to allow all of a student's needs to be met. I like to operate on flexible lesson plans built around areas of study, going over all of their components until we find one that presents a difficulty - once that area has been identified, we can then work at it until it's well-understood and well-practised.

I think that a back-and-forth between tutor and tutee is important; I need to know what you understand as much as you need to know what I understand, and so I like to consolidate work by having students explain and teach the areas they've just learned, recapping in later sessions.

As a lowly university student, I don't have access to the training and resources of qualified teachers, but I hope that I can help you learn.
