About me

I’m currently in my first year studying French and Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh. I am a part of the La French society, the Linguistics society and Les Escogriffes French theatre society. I like discovering more about French culture, cinema, literature and the language itself. I would really like to share this enthusiasm with others as I feel the study of languages is so important nowadays and want to help students converse fluently and confidently. I also loved English at school and took both English Language and Literature at A-Level. I greatly enjoyed looking at language from an analytical and scientific perspective and it is because of this that I have gone on to study linguistics.

About my sessions

During A-level I was always intimidated by speaking exams and found it difficult to practice because I was too anxious to make mistakes. Thanks to my own studies, I now appreciate that having teachers who encourage you to learn from experience is crucial to becoming a competent language learner.

Thanks to my own studies, I now appreciate that having teachers who encourage you to learn from experience is crucial to becoming a competent language learner.

A good English and languages tutor is able to make the content fun and interactive. While it may be necessary to cover basic terminology or repetitive grammar points, this does not have to be through rote learning or boring verb tables. In my lessons each exercise would be different, engaging, and catered to any material the student is struggling to grasp. It is with this dynamic approach that I feel I can help boost an understanding of the subject as well as an enjoyment of it.

I can provide vocabulary lists or texts to annotate for between sessions so that progress can be measured over time. For English, I'm happy to go through students' essays with them and work on getting them into the higher bands of the mark scheme. Equally, I can help French students practise for speaking and listening exams and improve written work with activities based on what they enjoy, whether it be fashion, sports, films or other hobbies- I often find that if the work is related to something we're interested in it makes it much easier to pay attention.
