About me

I am an enthusiastic and hardworking student at the University of Leeds and studying Mechanical Engineering. I enjoy helping others understand difficult problems and finding out where these problems are rooted. My favourite subject at school was Maths and I relish the opportunity to work through complicated examples with others. I like to make sure my solutions and workings can be easily understood and are well structured.

About my sessions

Ideally, the student would come to me with a subject or question that they have struggled on. I'd first let them explain to me their process at each step (if they are getting confused in this - then the first step should be to structure their work better). I would then go through the problem with them step-by-step showing them a well-structured solution (most exam marks lost in a subject like Maths stem from unclear workings) highlighting where they made a mistake. I would then ask them briefly about why they made this mistake, gauging whether it was a flaw in understanding or simply process. If there was a flaw in understanding, I would strip back the question and focus on the small part that they are struggling with and try and find the cause to this problem. After this, I would then provide the student with similar examples to see if the problem has been corrected. Hopefully, the student will have corrected themself and the goal will have been achieved. If not, I would repeat the process slowly with another question, focusing more on the individual processes involved in answering the example question.

I think it is important to encourage learning because it is a necessary skill in all walks of life. Once someone knows how they learn best, and they can identify for themselves the common mistakes they make, they will become a fast learner and excel at whatever they put their mind to.
