Hi there!

I left school nearly 2 years ago with grades of A*, A*, A, A in English, EPQ, Philosophy and Ethics and Russian respectively. In English I scored 196/200 in my final exams. Since then I've been studying for an English degree at Robinson College Cambridge.

I can provide tuition in all of these subjects and also help with preparation for Higher Education. During Sixth Form, I tutored several secondary school children in English Language and English Literature. I encountered a wide variety of kids, and had to learn how to be adaptive and flexible. Everyone is different and learns in different ways and this is something I apply to my teaching.

This more reactive style means I can work out what it is you need and then provide for you as an individual rather than forcing you to change to my system.

I love thinking through problems and constructing arguments. I also love to read and discuss books with other people. Being questioned and challenged in the way you think always helps you grow as a person, and I find I learn from my students as much as they learn from me.

I enjoy theatre, film, comedy and music, particularly choral and classical.

About my sessions

The subjects I can teach in, (with the possible exception of Russian) very rarely have ubiquitous course material, so early sessions will be quite investigative, working out what you want from the sessions and what we need to do to achieve that.

Do you like the subject? If not, why not, and can this be changed at all?

What are your stronger and weaker areas?

How do you learn best (e.g. visually or audibly, via instruction or independently etc.)?

Do you want a grounding...

Do you like the subject? If not, why not, and can this be changed at all?

What are your stronger and weaker areas?

How do you learn best (e.g. visually or audibly, via instruction or independently etc.)?

Do you want a grounding in a subject you've just picked up, or do you need a polish of technique before your exams?

These questions need to be answered before we can proceed.

The sooner we know what you want the sooner we can go about achieving it. Each session will be done with a view to you then completing a piece of written work, the nature of which will be decided based on your work preferences. I will set a question at the start of the session and then offer some guidance as to how you might go about answering it. I will mark whatever you produce and give feedback. These will be light exercises that shouldn't take too much time or effort, although of course this can be increased where wanted/needed.

After the first few sessions I think it would be good to set out 2-4 broader goals, things you want to have changed by the end of your tuition with me. We can then set smaller objectives to mark your progress toward these.
