I am a PhD student at the University of Bristol studying Biology. My field of research is plant molecular biology and physiology, with a particular focus on understanding how stomata work. Stomata are microscopic pores found on the underside of leaves and are vital in controlling water loss and carbon dioxide uptake. Whilst I am trained in the field of plant biology I have a keen interest in many other aspect of the natural world. I am treasurer for the Entomological Society at the University and have a passion for aquatic biology also. I love biology because it is a multidisciplinary science requiring a good knowledge of maths, chemistry and physics; every day throws up a new challenge and there is always more to learn. I hope that I can pass on my passion for nature and science to my students, if you love what you learn it's no longer a chore!
From my experience supervising under I understand that each student learns differently and I am flexible in the way I teach. I expect most students already have their own goals they wish to achieve and I am more than happy to help them achieve those. If they don't already have a goal I can help them identify one, learning is easier when you know where you are going. I also want to help students develop skills which help them work out the answers for themselves, so when they no longer need...
From my experience supervising under I understand that each student learns differently and I am flexible in the way I teach. I expect most students already have their own goals they wish to achieve and I am more than happy to help them achieve those. If they don't already have a goal I can help them identify one, learning is easier when you know where you are going. I also want to help students develop skills which help them work out the answers for themselves, so when they no longer need me as a tutor they can still confidently answer questions about a new topic they are learning. This is a very important part of being a successful scientist and is applicable to life in general.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the MyTutor team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach.
