About me

I'm currently a first year at the University of Oxford studying History - an achievement I am immensely proud of. Applying to university was quite a confusing time for me, with words thrown around which I'd never heard before, from 'UCAS' to' Oxbridge' to 'Firm choice' - it was all quite overwhelming! But I was not confused about what I wanted to do, and that was a History degree. So over a year later I want to help others achieve their ambitions and grades. I...

I have always been interested in history, from exploring museums to ruins - there was always something intriguing about a distant past in which we are still so connected in. That intrigue led to me wanting to learn more, see more and talk more about history. I want to help other budding historians and those who struggle with it, to at least find an admiration for the subject. Whether you love history or loathe it, I can assure you that my tutorials will inspire you enough to want to do your revision. I know the importance of positive teaching to encourage learning, as I have experienced how teachers' with little faith in their students have negatively impacted their success. So expect a positive, ambitious and encouraging atmosphere. Above all, I hope my sessions will raise aspirations, I hope my story is evidence that if you follow my methods and work hard, you can achieve the best grades and get into top universities!

About my sessions

I hope my tutoring sessions will not only be informative and useful, but will help to develop the necessary skills which are integral to higher-level answers in exams. I understand that it is often hard to understand 'where' you went wrong in your essay, or why your mark may not be as high as you'd hoped. More to the point, it is often hard to know exactly how to improve. Unlike a science or maths equation, there is no CLEAR right or wrong. However in my tutorials...

However in my tutorials I hope to break down history essays into manageable and clear structures. Moreover, I will provide students with methods to approach questions, top tips to impress examiners and how to ensure a fluid line of argument throughout essays. I will be able to tailor tutorials to suit each students area for improvement, whether that be for source based essays or factor based ones. In each session, I will assess and measure improvement through a clear checklist of assessment objectives (something which I will provide the student with) and I will then colour code each student's essay where they fulfilled as assessment criteria, and where they could improve. I believe that resources such as word banks and fact files are also integral to supplement knowledge and embellish essay answers. Closer to exams I will tailor sessions to revision activities, with methods that have given me success in my educational career.
