Hi, I'm Quinn, I'm currently a second year Medical Student at the University of Liverpool. My motivation for tutoring and Medicine are the same, I enjoy helping people. I am originally from Nottinghamshire. I attained 4 A*'s, 6A's and 3B's in total in my GCSE's studying a variety of subjects from year 9 to year 11 at the McAuley Catholic High School. I am originally from Nottinghamshire. I attained 4 A*'s, 6A's and 3B's in total in my GCSE's studying a variety of subjects from year 9 to year 11 at the McAuley Catholic High School. This allowed me to achieve a scholarship to Hill House School, for sixth-form, where studied Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics. I completed my A levels attaining an A* in Biology, an A in Chemistry and a B in Maths by unfortunately missing out by a few marks (However, I received an A at AS level).
My aspiration has been to study Medicine and become a doctor since primary school. I am interested in Football, as I am an avid Liverpool supporter. I also have played Rugby for many years. I enjoy music, I play the piano and I also enjoy acting from time to time.
This passed year on My tutor, I have tutored both Biology and Chemistry and I am eager to continue to do so. I also offer support with personal statement or Medicine interview help, as I know how difficult this can be. I aspire to help others achieve their goals as this is an amazing experience!
I am involved in a peer medics teaching group at University, helping to teach younger years. I'm very committed to learning, it should be something fun and purposeful, not monotonous. I know from experience that classroom teaching does not benefit everyone. Teachers do their best, but lack the time or resources to cater to each students learning needs. The key to understanding something is to make sure the teaching method is specific to the student.

During my sessions I adapted to each student as I believe the way I teach content should ALWAYS be at the students discretion. However, I always make sure to incorporate questions into the lessons, active recall is one of the most valuable techniques for consolidating knowledge. I like to start each lesson with questions from the previous lesson, recall and application of knowledge keeps it fresh. Each lesson ends with a summary/discussion of what we have done, I ask the student if they are happy with how I have explained things and if there is anything they would like me to take some time to go over again before the end of the lesson. I then ask them to save and read over the lesson notes and attempt some questions before the start of next lesson.
I really want to get to know my students and make them feel comfortable as possible so they feel confident and enthusiastic to answer and ask questions. A good rapport between tutor and tutee is very beneficial to learning.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the MyTutor team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 7 becomes a tutor on our site.
