About me

HI I'm Josh Blewitt, a first year Medical Student at the University of Liverpool. I grew up in a small village in Leicestershire, England and have 2 older siblings. I went to Ashby School in Leicestershire, where I sat my GCSE's (where I attained 10 A's) and A-Levels, achieving AAB.

My fascination with science came from an early age and by the age of around 10 I knew I wanted to be a doctor!

My favourite subjects at school were always Biology and Physical Education and I continued to study these subjects from Primary School to A-level and AS respectively. Both of these subjects transfer to my chosen field of medicine and this is one of the reasons I love my degree so much!

Outside of my love for academia, I play a variety of sports including Rugby, Cricket, Football and Golf as well as taking part in musical theatre and playing the piano. Sport has always been my other passion and I believe it has taught me many skills that have transferred to help me with my studies, for example perseverance.

Overall, I aim to help my students gain confidence in their subject area of choice and help them gain understanding on topics maybe not explained to them before. This should be done in an enjoyable way while also ensuring they are prepared for any upcoming examinations.

About my sessions

I have had previous experience tutoring in the past and this has given me perspective on how learning is an active process that is based upon the tutor/tutee communication and teamwork.

I have had previous experience tutoring in the past and this has given me perspective on how learning is an active process that is based upon the tutor/tutee communication and teamwork.

I understand from personal experience that every person is different and learns in their own individual way; therefore, I will try to get to know my tutee as well as possible in our first sessions in order for me to plan and teach their lessons in the most efficient manor. Learning should also be fun and is one of my favourite things about being in higher education, I will try to incorporate active learning and quizzing into our sessions, this will keep both of us engaged and interested in the topic at hand!!

Although I can help my tutee's gain further understanding on a topic, learning must be done in the students own time also; I will aim to set some work for the tutee at the end of each session we have, this will be based upon what we have covered in the session and further consolidate their knowledge.

I would also love it if students felt they were able to lead the sessions with me and provide me with questions to answer, this way I can target their specific needs and ensure that they gain a wholistic understanding of the subject.

I am also on MyTutor every day, so if my tutee's have any problems, i would be more than happy to help outside our sessions :)
