Degree: French and Spanish (Bachelors) - Bristol University
Hello all! My name is Victoria and I'm currently studying French and Spanish at Bristol University. I absolutely love languages, I'm constantly listening to foreign music and my flatmates always find me watching foreign films. Languages are difficult and they need to be taught with enthusiasm but also with clarity! I used to do study sessions for students in my school back in London and I always made sure everybody understood what we were doing while at the same time, kept it fun and engaging.
I'm very friendly, approachable, enthusiastic, patient and organised! All my sessions would have a clear structure, I'd welcome you to ask as many questions as need be and above all, if you make mistakes it wouldn't be a problem or a reason to lose hope. I will go over things until you completely understand them. With languages especially, repetition is often needed.
I won't prescribe you with things to do, I want you to tell me what it is you need to go over! I'll quite happily dedicate a session on one thing as opposed to several if need be (or vice versa). I will try and give you examples of exam questions (when/if they are needed) so that you get used to using your language skills in the context of an exam. My aim would be to make sure that you could explain things back to me, that way I know you've understood! And if not, not to worry, we'll go over it again until you do.
I won't read out of a textbook or make you do boring exercises! I'll look for ways that suit your style of learning whether it be diagrams, mindmaps, drawings or even just writing an explanation down.
If you need help with personal statements around languages or want to know some extracurricular activities you could do to boost your statement I'll be more than happy to give you some advice! I've done this before with students in my school back home and I enjoyed it very much. The great thing about languages is that the skills are so transferable. Teachers always say your statements need to be "unique" and often finding that is super hard, so don't hesitate to ask me about it if need be.
If you have any questions, send me a 'WebMail' or book a 'Meet the Tutor Session'! Let me know your exam board and what it is you need to go through!
I look forward to meeting you!
