About me

Hi, I'm Yasmin Tunnah, a first year medical student at the University of Liverpool. I previously lived in Manchester with my parents and younger sister. I attended Loreto Grammar School where I took my GCSE's (obtaining 8A*s and 3As) and my A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Maths ( receiving 3As). As well as sciences, I have always been interested in languages and took AS level Spanish in year 12 (obtaining an A).

From an early age, I knew I wanted to work in a clinical setting as the fast-pace, team working and science based lifestyle intrigued me, as well as a fascination of how the human body works. After many work experiences, I knew medicine was for me and I am so happy I chose this career path as I love the course!

Outside of school, I love gymnastics and have competed regionally in the past. As well as a keen interest in dance and performing arts; the skills I have learnt from my extra curricular activities such as improving my confidence and communication skills will help me as a doctor in the future.

Academia has always been really important to me and is something I would love to help other people in to help them achieve their goals. Through my own enthusiasm in the subject, I hope I can get to know my students and create a warm environment to help them learn the best way for them.

Using a variety of exam questions, regular revision of previous topics and improving knowledge gradually helps to improve success rate in exams. I hope that I would be able to use my enthusiasm for the subject to help my students deepen their own interest.

I would love for the sessions to be student led, responding to their individual needs. For example, I would ask my students for specific topic areas to cover at the end of a session so these can be discussed next time. Reviewing what was covered in previously ensures that the knowledge is solid before deepening it further.

Another important feature is to ensure that the student feels they are benefiting from the sessions, so I would regular ask them if they feel they are progressing. I understand how frustrating it can be when the pace is too slow/ fast or when a concept may not be fully explained; this technique should help to avoid this and ensure the most effective and efficient learning.Overall, my aim is for the lessons to be an enjoyable way of developing subject skills and success in preparing for exams, I hope to create a friendly and motivating environment for myself and the student to achieve their goals.

The way Yasmin explains the topic (in maths GCSE) is very good. Very friendly, helpful and patient, when I didn't understand it. She is way more better than my teacher in school.

Yasmin was a really helpful teacher to my daughter, she was patient and understanding when she did not understand a topic and when through it step by step until she fully understood it.
