About me

Archaeology and Anthropology allows me to learn something new and exciting everyday about our history as humans and the way in which our daily life differs from culture to culture. The course bridges both the social sciences and humanities and so provides multiple perspectives and different ways to consider a topic.

Exams always appeared to be daunting at school but I found that all it took was finding a revision strategy that worked for me to make me feel confident for all the exams I was sitting. I also found that a key to feeling relaxed about

exams was to always leave myself enough time for revision. These are all methods I would work on in my tutorial sessions with people.

The most daunting process of my university applications were the interviews at Oxford but they turned out to be a very enjoyable process and made me realise that I would be happy studying at a place like Oxford and reinforced my interest in the subject.

At university I am vice-president of the University Dance Team which is fun and a great way to meet new people outside of college. I am also the co-president of my college's (Keble) annual black-tie ball. There is more to Oxford than just academic work!

My sessions will be student led with the student telling me what it is that they are struggling with and what it is that they want to achieve from our sessions. I will begin by tackling the questions that the student is finding it hard to come to grips. I will make sure we try out various different strategies to understanding the questions. These will include more visual approaches using colour and diagrams and also the opportunity to use more audio-visual strategies. These should also help with revision strategies.

Once the student feels confident about the topic we can try some practice questions to check it has been understood and these can be reviewed at later stages. From this process it should hopefully become apparent if there are other areas that need to be worked on or we can move onto another area that they are struggling with.

I think the most important thing is to make my sessions enjoyable and rewarding for the student. If they learn something new each time, they will come to feel more confident in their ability and enjoy the process of learning. I don’t want the sessions to be a chore but for students to realise that it is exciting to learn new things. My aim is to make the student feel confident and prepared for any exams they are having to take.
