About me

Hey! I'm a finalist in economics at Cambridge, going on to a master's degree next year. I love economics as a way of applying my maths skills to practical problems. I'm a bit of a politics junkie, and I enjoy the that economics allows me to analyse current affairs in a logical, systematic way.

My teaching style is fairly exam-orientated - while I do think the content is very interesting, I think that helping students understand how to do well is the most important thing a tutor can do. My own experience of revision has been that rather than a strict plan that assigns equal time to each topic, it is much more useful to target specific areas for improvement based on what the student needs most.

About my sessions

I think past-exam paper questions should be at the centre of any revision strategy. Not only is it extremely valuable to practice writing answers in exam conditions, it is a really effective way to discover which areas of knowledge are weakest. This way you can focus on the areas that really need developing, rather than recapping material that is already strong.

I would want to structure my lessons in communication with the student and their parents, to find out what kind of learning style works best for you. However, I would recommend that the student sends me some work completed before the lesson, either a marked test from school or a completed past paper for me to mark. Rather than going through the whole paper, I would suggest that I pull out a few topics that the student found difficult and spend the lesson teaching the topic to a high standard. This would also help me check progress, as we will be able to see whether the topic is answered better for the next lesson.
