About me

Hey, I'm Holly and I am a first-year student at the University of Birmingham studying Human Neuroscience. ln my degree I love to combine my knowledge of biology, chemistry, psychology and maths to help me to understand human behaviour and how the brain functions. I have always been very motivated to revise, but at every level of education I have faced struggles with my confidence, leading me to believe that the top grades are out of my reach. I have always been very motivated to revise, but at every level of education I have faced struggles with my confidence, leading me to believe that the top grades are out of my reach. Despite this, I have achieved GCSE and A Level results that I am very proud of and would love to help other students to build their confidence and achieve their goals too. During my A Level studies I found tutoring a GCSE maths student very rewarding, helping her to build her confidence and achieve a grade 6, despite her previously working at level 4. I am a creative person and am part of the Art Society at my university. I love to read and I go to the gym 3-4 times a week.

About my sessions

I believe that with enough hard work and self-belief any student is capable of achieving the top grades. With sciences and maths, routine practice of the same style questions can improve a student’s knowledge very quickly. I love to use diagrams to visualise difficult concepts and improve learning and understanding. When revising for exams, I always find that discussing difficult topics with my peers helps me to understand the concepts even more. As a result, I will always listen to my studen...

As a result, I will always listen to my students and encourage them to discuss any ideas or areas of difficulties they are experiencing within a topic. Talking it through with somebody else always helps.

Having taken 4 A Levels only last year, I fully understand the pressures young people can be under (applying to university/apprenticeships, maintaining social relationships, studying for exams and many more). Revising can often seem daunting, but by breaking down the learning criteria into small chunks, exams can suddenly seem a lot less scary. I will encourage my students to create revision planners to give them a structure to their revision; this has always helped me to take control of the volume of work I have been required to do. By tutoring, I hope to help others to reach their full potential because everybody deserves a good quality of education.
