Hi, I'm Emma, a second year undergraduate at Durham University studying BA Geography. Although my degree specialises in Human Geography, I actually was on the BSc programme for a year before I realised I wanted to switch courses. I do still however take integrated modules in Physical Geography, meaning I am fully competent in both sides of the discipline. I have always had a passion for Geography and learning about the world in which we live. Now, with the plethora of world crises and environmental issues humanity is facing, I believe that an in-depth understanding of Geography is vital for the future of our planet.

Aside from Geography, I love English Literature and French, and achieved A* A at A level respectively. I want students to enjoy my subjects as much as I do, and would love to help students realise their potential in these subjects.

Ultimately, I want tutoring to be an enjoyable experience for my students and not a chore, and to achieve this, my lessons promise to be diverse, engaging and interesting. All will be individually tailored to suit the needs of the student and my wide and in-depth knowledge will help students to succeed in exams and beyond.

About my sessions

I have experience in both tutoring and being a tutee, meaning I have a good understanding of the various ways in which different students learn in. A strong level of communication between student and tutor is key which will allow me to tailor my lessons around the individual student and how they learn.

I will begin by asking the student to identify any areas for improvement that they would like to work on, and I will ensure these areas are the focus of my planning and teach...

I have experience in both tutoring and being a tutee, meaning I have a good understanding of the various ways in which different students learn in. A strong level of communication between student and tutor is key which will allow me to tailor my lessons around the individual student and how they learn.

I will begin by asking the student to identify any areas for improvement that they would like to work on, and I will ensure these areas are the focus of my planning and teaching. I will structure my lessons depending on the subject, level and exam board and will write students practise questions and quizzes to keep track of their progress throughout our lessons.

Remembering back to when I sat GCSEs and A levels, for essay based subjects like Geography, English and French, the importance of essay planning and structuring is integral and this is something that from my own experience, I would help my students to do. As well as working on this, I would use the resources of past papers and mark schemes to help explain to students how to get the highest marks in exams.

I believe that confidence is a big part of students' attitudes towards learning and taking exams, and I want my students to see their confidence improve throughout our lessons to the point that they feel fully equipped to succeed in their exams using the tools I have provided to them that should set them up for future learning.
