I'm Alex, and I'm currently an RE teacher. I studied at Durham University for four years completing a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Religion and then a Master of Arts in Theology and Religion. In September I moved to Manchester to start my teacher career. I've taught RE and philosophy at both GCSE and A-level. Teaching RE is an amazing experience and I am so happy to be able to share my obsession with others through my teaching and now tutoring. RE and philosophy has captivated me since GCSE, and it has been a privilege to have been lucky enough to study it for so long.

I was lucky at school to have two brilliant RE and philosophy teachers who truly showed me what an academic passion looks like. They helped me through the process of applying to university, revising for exams and going the extra mile for their students - it is this I want to do.

In addition to RE, I have had a life long love of martial arts, and have been involved with Muay Thai kickboxing and Karate for ten years.

About my sessions

My tutoring style is something I change depending on the needs of my student. Depending on the knowledge of my student, I will either plan a very detailed and structured lesson that helps the student at every turn of the lesson. However if my student is doing well in the subject, I may get the student to take more of a lead and show me what they know and push them with my questioning. Nonetheless, I will always be thinking about the progress of my student and about how I can push the student...

Nonetheless, I will always be thinking about the progress of my student and about how I can push the student to be even better.

I also like using fun methods to break down concepts. For example I created a card game for a GCSE group I was teaching to help them understand key terms in Islam. Making RE accessible through creative lessons is how I like to teach.

I have experience in both preparing for exams as a student and helping my students prepare for exams. Therefore, I will always ensure that my students are doing what they need to do to be successful.
