Politics is often sad, alien and remote, and I know from my own experiences that talking through issues is the best way to navigate the weird mess we find ourselves in. This process will be frustrating, as you refine your arguments and worldview you will find issues with the mark scheme and the content which can actually limit your potential. However, as well exam success you will be equipped with a solid platform to shape the world as you would like to, and be able to identify even more ways in which you are being held back.

I can share my own research as well as point to valuable sources beyond the mainstream media to give you that competitive edge to prepare for your exam. In particular, my research is focused around anarchist currents in modern networked social forces such as the antiglobalisation, global justice and green movements. I criticise the impact the IMF and World Bank have on so-called 'developing' countries by trapping them in poverty and continuing historic colonial power relations. I also write about the recent rise of nationalism and the racialised, gendered and class-based discourses which underpin them, which can be historically traced to the rise of the nation state since Early Modern history. However I will argue against whatever you think so don't think you're off the hook if you happen to agree with me!

About my sessions

If you send me your exam board and specification, I can use this as a checklist for the content and writing style you will need for your exam. Typically, there are 3 components to my online lessons: unpicking key concepts; surveying empirical evidence stressing recent examples but contextualised by historical trends; then amalgamating these into exam situations which I will create. Progress is measured by exam-like question performance, but this is impossible if you are not confident, which is built up by discussion rather than just exams. Time will be spent to thoroughly give feedback on the grasp of concepts and evidence, the product of which will be exam success.

For the longer essay questions, often the bulk of the marks in a paper, it is crucial to be able to argue from different perspectives before reaching a reasoned conclusion. Of course, you do not always have to argue what you believe in, and it is often a useful intellectual exercise to argue the contrary position. Whatever you choose, you need to stay up to date so you can give me a hard time and then come into the essay already armed with a broad range analytical weapons which you can deploy. Education is not a one-way process, especially in politics. I won't tell you what to think, that completely ruins the point of studying politics and developing your political citizenship. I very much look forward to the opportunity for us to learn from each other.
