About me

Hi! I'm Kyra, a third year Modern Languages (French and Spanish) student at the University of Oxford. I love studying languages because they change the way you see the world. As a result of language-learning I have a more holistic understanding of my own language and culture, I have read literature in its original language from four different continents and I have made friends from rural villages where English is hardly spoken. I love studying languages because they change the way you see the world. As a result of language-learning I have a more holistic understanding of my own language and culture, I have read literature in its original language from four different continents and I have made friends from rural villages where English is hardly spoken. In any case, in spite of popular opinion, I maintain that grammar is FUN.

Nonetheless, I've lived through the trials and tribulations of GCSE's, A-Levels and the MLAT so I'm aware that exams aren't easy. By focusing on exam technique and reinforcing the essentials - grammar and vocab, 'the building blocks' of language - I will to give the tools you need to ace your upcoming exams and kickstart your languages career!

About my sessions

I always begin preparing my classes by thoroughly researching the qualification and exam board, so that I am familiar with the structure, content and marking criteria. Although I sat GCSE and A-Levels myself, I am aware that these exams are constantly evolving and it is important to have the most up-to-date knowledge.

I always begin preparing my classes by thoroughly researching the qualification and exam board, so that I am familiar with the structure, content and marking criteria. Although I sat GCSE and A-Levels myself, I am aware that these exams are constantly evolving and it is important to have the most up-to-date knowledge.

The course structure and content depends greatly on the needs of each individual student. For example, if the student required general tuition to boost their grade, I would identify areas of weakness in the first session using a past paper so that we had an idea of areas to focus on. Whereas, if they specifically wanted help with their grammar, I would focus on a different tense or grammar point each week.

I think it is important that the student has some sort of personal motivation - be it a love of languages, a desire to make a pass grade or the prospect of a university place. That said, by creating varied and interactive lessons which maximise the possibilities of the online lesson space, I will keep my help my students to stay engaged, motivated and on-task. I hope to use my enthusiasm to share my passion for languages with my students!

Kyra interacted with my son well, used age appropriate examples and was throughly enthusiastic. My son has asked for further lessons with her which we intend on completing to give him the much needed confidence in maths.
