About me

I am a student at Sussex University currently studying Geography and International Development. I absolutely love my course and have a real passion for Geography as a wide ranging and diverse subject. I studied Biology, English Literature and Geography at A-Level (achieving As in all subjects) and feel that these are really rich subjects, which have the ability to be really engaging and insightful. As well as my A-Levels, I achieved 6 A*s and 6 As in my GCSEs, meaning I'm well experienced...

As well as my A-Levels, I achieved 6 A*s and 6 As in my GCSEs, meaning I'm well experienced with revision methods and exam techniques. Throughout my time at secondary school, I used a range of different revision techniques and resources that I would be able to share with you. I'm understanding of the fact that everyone's learning style is unique, and that different methods work better for different people, so I will make sure to work with students and parents to find methods that are best suited to you. I have had previous experience tutoring younger years at secondary school, and proof reading university applications and found this extremely rewarding. I also achieved an A* in EPQ and am therefore happy to offer information and advice about this. In general, I am enthusiastic and happy to offer any other guidance about things such as referencing, essay writing and university applications. Outside of my studies I have a huge passion for running and am part of the Sussex University Athletics’ society.

About my sessions

I believe that what is most important about my sessions is that they are tailored to each individual student, so at the start of our time together I will be sure to establish what sort of learner my student is, and discuss with parents and students what they would like sessions to include, considering whether things such as homework, essay checking, additional worksheets or mini tests would be useful. For me personally, I found using past exam questions extremely useful, which I would then correct alongside official mark schemes and examiners reports in order to grasp an understand of what these exam boards are looking for. In sessions I believe it would be useful to go through these together. I also found creative methods of revision useful when revising, using a variety of flash cards, coloured diagrams and mind-maps. One of the best ways to test your subject knowledge is to be able to explain a process or exam answer to a third party, which I would enable my students to do, with productive feedback after. I don't think that the focus of these sessions should be completely on exams, although I understand their importance, so I would make sure to keep up with current news stories and interesting developments in these fields of studies to keep these subjects interesting and engaging. I will always leave time at the end of each session for any additional questions or feedback, in order to prepare for the next session and make it as productive as possible.
