I completed a PhD in 2016, and am currently teaching and researching at University College London.  I have spent eighteen years studying, reading extensively and writing in the social sciences, with social anthropology, my specialism, being a kind of literary analysis of the worlds around us. Social sciences, philosophy, religion, classics and literature give us tools for understanding the world and humans, and continue to fascinate me. I love exploring mythologies and religion as 'other' ways of understanding the world, and how these understandings affect how we lead our lives and our impact on the world around us.

I have more than ten years tutoring experience. I will help students to gain confidence through true understanding of the underlying issues and theories of the subjects concerned. We will use where relevant real life examples, connecting the curricular material to the world around us, enhancing your work with an impressive depth of analysis and breadth of detail. I can help students clarify and express their ideas to make their work really their own.

My hobbies are yoga, walking in the countryside, and listening to live music, largely folk, jazz and blues, at small concerts and festivals. I love traveling, and spent much of my twenties in Latin America, where I worked with a succession of NGOs and studied alternative education. I have recently returned from India.

I take a personalised approach, putting the learner at the centre of education, encouraging their interests and assisting with weak points. Each lesson is tailored to your needs; there will be no pointless repetition of things you are already confident with, but plenty of interesting discussions, engaging and feeding your interests. We will connected relevant issues from the curriculum with examples from your own experience, understanding education as a set of tools to interpret reality. I believe that a thorough understanding of underlying issues, themes and theories contributes to a true knowledge, which can be used with flexibility, and will allow you to enter exams with confidence. Taking the time to understand these clearly gives your work an expert touch which impresses examiners.
