About me

Hi! I'm Gayaneh. I am a second-year undergraduate student of English Literature at Durham University. As I am extremely passionate about theatre (I intend to pursue acting as a career), I try to immerse myself in as much co-curricular drama as possible alongside my English degree. As I am extremely passionate about theatre (I intend to pursue acting as a career), I try to immerse myself in as much co-curricular drama as possible alongside my English degree. Having studied Italian and French to a high degree at secondary school, I endeavour to practise these languages as often as I can, whether by travelling to those countries to speak amongst the locals, or by initiating conversations in Italian and French with the international students of Durham university; I understand the importance of practising language frequently in order to maintain a high standard. In terms of my English degree, I have fostered a love for the subject since the early stages of primary school, continuing to study it to degree level. I am as engaged with the nuances and shapes of the language as I am with the contextual background accompanying the wide scope of literature tackled on the course. As a tutor, I intend to instil in a pupil as much enthusiasm for their subject as I have found paramount to my education, both during lessons and when preparing for exams.

About my sessions

I maintain the importance of teaching a student the skill of thinking for themselves, in order to find answers through logical thinking: I will refrain from "spoon-feeding" the answer to a student. To do this, I will teach, as I have always been taught, the process of reaching a conclusion on one's own, with minimal help from a teacher or tutor - a skill that will be crucial to a pupils's exam technique as well as their homework assignments. In foreign languages, this may be measured in terms of a pupil's ability to recall a French word, for example, which they have forgotten. By thinking of similar words in that language, and other languages, a student can trace the parts that make up a word through its meaning, in order to eventually remember it, both on that occasion, and even more quickly in future instances. In English Literature and Language, I hope to help a student transfer the vocabulary and complex grammar structures they have learnt in lessons into their writing, so that they are reaching maximum marks with the tools that they have gained in class time. I aim to help students of theatre and drama to expand their minds in order to think most creatively, while adhering to the marking criteria - a method I found particularly useful at school, so that creativity did not get in the way of achieving the highest possible marks under the guidelines given.
