About me

Hi, I'm Adam, and I tutor English at all levels. I graduated from New College, Oxford with a first in English in 2018, and again with a Masters (with distinction) focussing on literature from 1550 to 1700 in 2019. With a few years' hindsight I really think school and university are the best times of your life, and subject confidence is the best way to increase both your happiness and your academic success.

I love the depth, variety, and complexity of studying English -- there truly is something for everyone, and in the same way, there are an infinite number of approaches to studying the subject and writing exams. This means I'm confident anyone can succeed with the subject if they find the approach that works for them, and I'm committed to talking things through and finding out more about you so that I can help you find the right approach. I'm especially focussed on technical aspects of literature in my own work, so can particularly help with poetry, rhythm, meter and scansion; rhetoric; and technical aspects of English Language.

I'm intending to pursue a doctorate next year, and I've tutored privately for A Level and GCSE students prior to joining MyTutor.

About my sessions

I plan lessons to reflect the needs of individual students following an initial discussion. Sessions normally involve a good in-depth discussion of a given text or passage, some close reading work, and discussion and practise of exam question technique. I'm happy to handle broad literary analysis skills or particular set-text focussed work, depending on need.
