Hello! My name is Nathalie and I'm a student studying Economics and Politics at the University of Edinburgh. What I enjoy most about Politics is the ability to draw upon different theories and concepts to explain current affairs and the policies around the world, whilst also being equipped to challenge them on their relevance and suitability to the modern world. Economics enables me to learn about the extensive impact small incongruencies in the economy can have on society, for example through analysing the Global Financial Crisis or the effects of the minimum wage on different actors in society. I also enjoy using maths and problem-solving techniques to approach questions on market structures, and have been using the STATA software in my Statistics course this year at university. This has allowed me to explore the correlations between many economic, political and social indicators and their interdependence on one another.

I have studied a range of subjects and courses at school (such as German, Maths, Economics, English Literature, History, Statistics) as well as my core degree. My degree itself means that I am constantly revising and bettering my own mathematical and essay-writing skills, therefore would be able to help in both subject categories.

About my sessions

It is really important that these sessions are not simply me telling you the answer or providing you with what I would have written. They are about shaping your own response in the best way possible so that it is delivered effectively and clearly for the examiner to understand. The sessions will always begin with a review of what we have covered in our previous sessions because I believe repeating and revising information in small amounts frequently is a very effective way of learning the information in the long-term, and not just short-term memorising. I tend not to focus on too much theory and step by step approach (although this will be necessary at the beginning) and would much rather spend the time focusing on case studies and essay plans, for example, which are not only more interesting and challenge the student to employ the theory, but are also more relevant to both exams and the real world. The sessions will work closely in conjunction with what the student has been given as homework or classwork at school, a confidence boost in the subject and a broader understanding of the topics.
