About me

Thank you for clicking on my profile! My name is Ann and I’ve just finished my third year studying medicine at the University of Cambridge. It may sound cheesy, but university has shown me how weird and wonderful medicine truly is. Over the last three years, I have been able to really appreciate the complexities of the human body and I am particularly interested in oncology and neuroscience. It may sound cheesy, but university has shown me how weird and wonderful medicine truly is. Over the last three years, I have been able to really appreciate the complexities of the human body and I am particularly interested in oncology and neuroscience. Of course, I have also had an opportunity to get stuck in with the extracurricular activities on offer at Cambridge - when I’m not reading papers on neuroplasticity, I enjoy playing badminton for my college and learning modern dance!

I wanted to become a tutor because I know, from personal experience, how difficult studying for GCSE and A-Level exams can be. I remember how frustrating it was to leave my classroom feeling confused about the topics brought up in the lesson. I found that going through these topics with my friends in my own time was so valuable and I hope to reflect these sentiments in my tutoring sessions.

About my sessions

During my tutoring sessions, I hope to focus on topics that students find difficult in class, with a particular focus on outlining the key concepts for each subject. I believe it is also important to go through examples which test understanding of each topic, and so with each lesson, I will be selecting a handful of related questions from past papers for students to attempt. I am also willing to go through questions from mock exams that students sit in class and discuss how they can improve t...

I believe it is also important to go through examples which test understanding of each topic, and so with each lesson, I will be selecting a handful of related questions from past papers for students to attempt. I am also willing to go through questions from mock exams that students sit in class and discuss how they can improve their answers. Additionally, I wish to share the revision methods that helped me as a student, including the mnemonics I used to memorise challenging concepts and how I used flashcards to learn difficult biological definitions and mathematical equations.

Working as a maths tutor at a tuition centre for the last five years has shown me that every student is different and while one learning technique may work for some students, it may not work for everyone. As a tutor, I hope to help students find the method of learning that works best for them. This includes regularly checking in with my students about whether my teaching style is helpful for them and adjusting my sessions to reflect their style of learning.
