About me

Hi! My name is Anjali and I am a first year medical student at King's College London. I chose to study medicine as it is an interlectually stimulating course and the prospect of having a career that provides both life long learning and caring is extremely fulfilling to me. My interest in medicine stemmed from being fascinated in science, and I hope to encourage students to not only improve in biology and chemistry, but also enjoy it and appreciate it like how I did!

Applying for medicine has been a very competitive and stressful process, and I completely understand the demands and pressures that students face when sitting exams. However, the stressful examination season has taught me about the importance of time management, organisation and maintaining focus to achieve my goals, and I hope to use the skills that I have acquired to support other students both academically and emotionally during this daunting time.

Alongside my studies, I take part in a wide range of societies at university (from paediatric to baking!) as I believe that sometimes unwinding on studies and spending time doing different things with different people can actually improve performance, and allow me to gain more social skills in communication and co-operative working.

About my sessions

From personal experience, I believe that student focused learning is the most effective way to teach. I would first get to know my students more personally and understand what style of learning suits them best. I would also ask the student if they want to cover anything in particular in future sessions so that I can prepare material in advance.

I consider myself to be extremely approachable and fun and I want to ensure that students don't feel afraid when raising questions or concerns, as being a student myself, having this freedom greatly improves the learning process.

I am a bit of a geek when it comes to science (not that it's a bad thing!) and would use the online whiteboard and other visuals to make the learning process interactive and fun. This would also make unfamiliar concepts easier to grasp as oppose to if they were simply written in a textbook. This will make the student more confident in science and encourage learning rather than just force it, which is the key to good grades!

I would measure progress by continuously quizzing the student on what we had learnt previously to ensure that the material sticks, which will make revising it easier. I would also recommend practice papers that I used at school and assess their marks on these to adjust my lesson plan if necessary.
