Hi! I was born and raised in Athens, Greece and moved to the UK six years ago. After scoring top grades in my IB diploma I got accepted on the BA degree in English Literature at UCL. My BA in Literature has equipped me with a very strong academic background and an expertise in commentary writing, structuring essays, analysing poetry and prose. Following my graduation from UCL, I got accepted on the highly competitive MFA in Theatre Directing at Birkbeck College, University of London. My Masters and my theatre career has offered me very good communication skills, which have enabled me to be a curious and enthusiastic tutor.

Working as an academic tutor for Bloomsbury Circle since January 2019, has equipped me with the ability to focus on an individual student’s need, to hone their creativity and to develop their curiosity on the subject of literature.

I am particularly inspired by teaching young people, and enabling them to find confidence in their voice and their thoughts. Teaching the subject of literature allows me to discuss themes, characters and topics with the students and to engage them in debates about how the world is changing through our perspective of reading a literary text. I am a confident teacher and tutor who has aided a lot of students in excelling top grades in theis GSCEs, A-levels, IB, and undergraduate courses.

About my sessions

Each session will be tailored according to the student’s specific needs.

We will start by going through the basics of literature: the key literary devices, symbols, structures - as well as the key elements of analysing poetry/prose/drama (characters, themes, form, stylistic devices). I will provide hand-outs with explanations of each stylistic device and examples - as this form the basis of any exam or essay we will then start working towards.

What follows is learning how to structure a good essay/answer. Most students suffer from an inability to structure their essay in a coherent way. Once we go through this lesson together, I will provide the student with a template/structure (with specific linking words, and introductory and conclusive phrases) which will help them work through every essay they have.

Then, we will start putting what we've learnt (analysis & structure) in practice! By providing the student with past papers, we will first try to analyse the poem/story/play together - and then try to structure an essay based on a provided question.

I can also provide teaching sessions on specific pieces of literature (if, for instance, the student needs to prepare a specific essay on X play, or needs to take an exam on Y novel). We will analyse the play/novel together, divide it into sections, find useful quotes, and practice structuring essays.
