About me

I have been tutoring for many years in maths, biology, chemistry and economics. I enjoy teaching others and encouraging students to become more confident in their subjects. I have been tutoring for many years in maths, biology, chemistry and economics. I enjoy teaching others and encouraging students to become more confident in their subjects. After teaching in China this Summer I got to practice explaining difficult concepts to others and leading engaging lessons with confidence. With a younger brother I have spent many years explaining different subjects to him in a variety of stages of his education. I achieved an A * in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Economics in A level. These are subjects that I personally take great enjoyment in. One of my students recently achieved very high marks in his economics GCSE. It was lovely to hear how helpful and constructive he found my tutoring in helping him achieve his potential. Tutoring requires you to be patient, calm and creative with your explanations. I believe I have a great aptitude for these skills through many years of experience tutoring a huge variety of ages, through school mentor-ship schemes to family friends. My experience helping in schools, teaching and being head of house have all helped me improve my tutoring sessions and I will continue to focus on making the lessons as engaging as possible.

About my sessions

I will structure sessions individually based upon the students abilities and goals. For example for maths, initially I may ask a student to solve a question to understand what area they are struggling with. By going through a question with them slowly, then fully explaining the concept they have an example they can apply the concept to. If the student however has no base knowledge of the topic or very little understanding there would be greater focus on the concept. As a tutor there is a grea...

As a tutor there is a great importance on the ability to adapt to your students learning styles. For further aid I would find videos the student can later refer to as well as provide more example questions. I would encourage students to achieve their goals by creating a lesson plan and having a clear objective from the start of each lesson. The best way to measure progress is to set goals early and have regular check ins on progress. For example starting a lesson with a quick question on the last tutoring session can prove to the student how much they are learning as well as highlighting any reoccurring issues with concepts. Being encouraging is the most important thing. Regularly showing the students how well they've done and what they've learnt is very important. For written questions marking with two 'what went well' and one ' even better if' can also be a positive way to move forwards and encourage students to push themselves.
