I really enjoy the puzzle solving aspect of Engineering and how it combines technical application as well as creativity.

My personal hobbies and interests include: electronics, guitar and programming, I’m currently designing a program in Python for laying out integrated circuit designs with a friend from University.

During Sixth Form I was head boy and tutored two GCSE students, they seemed to benefit from it as they asked me back to tutor them for their A levels when I was home from university!

My mindset for learning is to try to actively think about the problems and to think “how” and “why” rather than just getting to the answer. The best way for me to prepare for exams is to utilise example questions and real-life examples to help understand the context behind the theory and application.

About my sessions

My plan for tutoring sessions will be largely dependent on what the tutee wishes. People have different ways of learning and I try to use this to my advantage by approaching subjects from a variety of angles.

I think that one of the most important things about learning is to have the necessary background skills to approach problems that might be unfamiliar, that way students can tackle topics that they might not have seen before, or at least feel more comfortable understanding them.

I think that one of the most important things about learning is to have the necessary background skills to approach problems that might be unfamiliar, that way students can tackle topics that they might not have seen before, or at least feel more comfortable understanding them.

A key part of my teaching style is rigorous self-review and to think “why” and “how” about problems and their solutions to fully understand them. I can help tutees think about problems in ways that they might not have thought of. And in many cases, it happens the other way around too! Either by them approaching a question a different way or me having to think of a new way to explain a topic.

The way of teaching that I think is most beneficial (and like to employ) is to get to a certain level of understanding of a subject and then use practice questions to apply the knowledge to real examples. This really helped me during my exams, and I believe that it reinforces a student’s learning.
