About me

Hello, my name is Oliver Rake. I’m currently in my first year at Durham University, studying economics.

I am offering tuition for GCSE and A-Level maths, for all exam boards, as well as GCSE French. I have always been a keen mathematician, and I’d like to share my knowledge and enthusiasm with my tutees. I speak fluent French, having spent a year at school in France. I also have a good idea of how people learn languages and which areas are important to focus on. I feel that (especially for French) school language departments tend to neglect the teaching of rules for conjugation and grammar, leaving pupils without a proper idea of the structure and style of the language.

I have been tutoring people for several years now, at a range of different ages and levels. I think that through this experience I’ve been able to build up a relaxed, unintimidating tutoring style - I can quickly adapt to the level and pace of the tutee, whilst still providing them with new goals and challenges.

I spent a while over the past year teaching maths to a group of 10-11 year olds in my local primary school. This gave me a new understanding of how to structure a series of classes over a period of several weeks – I would introduce and explain new concepts to them, as well as cementing their knowledge of old ones.
