About me

I have recently finished my studies at The University of Edinburgh. Biology and Chemistry were the subjects that I enjoyed most at school and therefore I decided to combine these interests by studying Biomedical Sciences at university. I have recently finished my studies at The University of Edinburgh. Biology and Chemistry were the subjects that I enjoyed most at school and therefore I decided to combine these interests by studying Biomedical Sciences at university. I have found the course incredibly interesting and I have learned so much. At the beginning of the third year into my degree, I was required to choose a specialty. I thoroughly enjoyed my elective course in Reproductive Biology and was subsequently convinced to specialise in Reproductive Sciences. During the second half of my degree, I found that I was particularly interested about the clinical context of knowledge I was acquiring - applying what I learn to 'real life' situations outside the lab. I undertook a summer internship at the end of my third year at a fertility clinic, following which I made the definitive decision that I would apply to study Medicine and aspire to become a doctor. I shortly competed the application process and undertook the UKCAT and BMAT alongside my university studies. I was incredibly grateful to receive three interviews and two offers to study Medicine, beginning the upcoming academic year. I am familiar with concerns and stress associated with studying and exams. I strongly believe that those who work hard will excel. I had a tutor for Spanish A-level which really helped to build my confidence in the subject and furthermore, helps me to understand positive traits of a good tutor.

About my sessions

I aim to tailor my teaching approach slightly for each student and encourage them to let me know how best they learn so that they may get most out of each session. Firstly, I would like to understand the main concerns that each student has with the subject. I will then use a range of learning tools, for example, I think that visual aids, such as diagrams and mind maps, can be really useful, as well as condensing information into detailed notes. I can also direct students to useful resources a...

I can also direct students to useful resources and provide advice and tips from my experience, to help with consolidating information in between sessions. I will encourage students to provide feedback to me about how they are learning and feeling about their progress. I aim to set small challenges in advance of each session which will help to reach their specific goals, and to provide a short quiz during some sessions. These practices will hopefully contribute to helping to measure learning and development progress. I believe that commitment, patience and perseverance are important for success, and my aim would be to hopefully inspire students to take initiative in their own learning, optimise motivation and support them throughout their learnings. I would like to be helpful and reassuring for students, and I believe I know what this entails given that I was in their same position not that long ago.
