About me

I am currently researching the evolution of limb-reduction in lizards, in the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge. Next year I will begin a PhD in Palaeontology at the University of Oxford.

I have always had a fascination with the natural world. This drove me to complete an undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, where I studied both biological and geological sciences, with a focus on animals and zoology. I have a particular interest in palaeontology, the study of ancient life, and this has led me to carry out both fieldwork expeditions in rural China, and my own research into dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum, London.

I have also always loved to teach. I have taken on multiple students in the past both during my time in 6th form and undergraduate degree. It gives me a great amount of pleasure to share my love with, and passion for, the natural scientific world with others, and I hope to continue to do so, and inspire the next generation of brilliant young scientists.

About my sessions

My sessions will begin with a discussion with the student where we will decide on learning objectives for the lesson. These will include the topics that we want to cover in the lesson, and in what kind of depth.

We will then work together, in a conversational format, through the topics. I always encourage students to ask lots of questions and challenge what they know. Too often students are told "you don't need to know why, just memorise this" and I do not believe this is co...

We will then work together, in a conversational format, through the topics. I always encourage students to ask lots of questions and challenge what they know. Too often students are told "you don't need to know why, just memorise this" and I do not believe this is conducive to good learning.

I believe that students learn best when they are able to logically come to their own conclusions about the questions they have posed. When answering questions I try, where possible, to act as a guide to help a student work out an answer for themselves, rather than simply answering it for them. I believe this enables students to better answer questions later, because if they have forgotten information, they can work towards an answer themselves, applying the same logical skills we have applied in lessons.

In subsequent sessions, I will begin with asking questions from previous sessions to refresh knowledge. This will also help to gauge an idea of progress. As exams approach, students and I can work through previous exam questions together.
