About me

Hey, I'm George! I am a studying Computer Science at Keble College, University of Oxford. This is a very mathematically involved degree, so I'm required to know the fundamentals taught at GCSE and A-level inside out. The modules I'm currently studying are clear progressions of everything taught in mathematics and computer science at school, so I have a deep understanding of the material that will be covered in tutoring sessions.

I've always been passionate about maths, and I developed a love for computer science when I started studying it in year 9, leading me to take it for GCSE and A-level, as well as applying to the University of Oxford to continue my studies there. The rigorous application process to Oxford also consolidated much of my knowledge in these two subjects, and inspired me to work for the top grades in my A-levels.

I believe a good tutor not only has in-depth knowledge about their subject/s, but also is articulate and effective at communicating this information to their students. Helping with access at University, running a programming club and lunchtime IT sessions in school, and working at a tutoring centre in the past are all examples of how I have been an effective teacher.

I am also a real person as well as a tutor, so hopefully we can both enjoy our time together in lessons!

About my sessions

I believe students often know what they need the most, so my sessions will be structured around you. I would love to have a chat with you before our first lesson, so I can get to grips with the topics you'd like to cover, the areas you'd like to focus on and the styles of learning which suit you best. From this, I will structure a lesson plan, so we can cover all the content you want in a time frame that suits you!

In the lessons themselves, I will take a very hands-on approach, to make the time we have together as effective as possible. This means we will work through examples together, building up from straightforward questions to more challenging ones, to develop your problem solving skills as much as possible. In an exam, be it GCSE or A-level, the best candidates are the ones who can think their way around a problem they haven't seen before, applying their knowledge in new and interesting contexts. Completing the infamous 'problem sheets' at Oxford has massively improved my ability to think of these hard questions myself, so I am well prepared to pass this on to you. We will also look at many curated examples of past paper questions, as I believe these are an extremely effective method of exam preparation.
