Tutorials are central to my degree: one hour for myself and another student to talk with a professor about a week of work. What I have learnt from this is that you should leave that hour knowing something new. A tutor who can give you a clear structure to understand issues is one who will help you to really learn what you need: at its best, a tutorial helps you establish skills to ace not just these exams, but ones in the future too.

I will give my students structured guidance: the chance to organise and add to their own thoughts through discussion and work with me. My A levels and experience of writing an average of 3 essays a fortnight at university also mean I know what it takes to write a good essay: structure, content, and style. If any of that sounds like what you want, do get in touch!
We will usually work on an essay title or short extract. For an essay, I will prepare a detailed plan or short model answer; for an extract, a detailed annotation and set of notes will be made. I will also read more widely around the topic to help answer questions.
Where applicable, at the beginning of the lesson there will be a brief recap of the last lesson, followed by a short discussion around the new topic to see where the student's knowledge is weaker.

The student will then be asked to give ideas on the essay title/extract, and to comment on or argue with the work I have prepared. For an essay, the student will be asked to do the conclusion to ensure that they have understood the content. This may be written on the Online Learning space or given as part of a discussion, depending on the student's confidence.
At the end, I will give the student feedback on the lesson and highlight areas for further work.
Progress and learning
Recaps of previous lessons will help knowledge retention and show both me and the student how helpful the lessons are. The students will be encouraged to actively participate throughout, and to ask questions as they arise. The opportunity to create a conclusion will also give an opportunity to work on reasoning and potentially on writing skills.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the MyTutor team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 7 becomes a tutor on our site.
