About me

Hello! My name is Anton and I am an undergraduate studying MSci Biochemistry and Genetics at the University of Nottingham! I studied Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and A-Level and loved all of them. Although I do not take maths at degree level I achieved an A* at GCSE and an A at A-Level as well as using it every day for my degree during both practical experiments and theory work. After my degree I am planning on going into cancer research.

Exams at school are a very nervewracking time even for the calmest of us, however with guidance every person can make it through them with amazing grades! I found that not every exam went perfectly and as the way you would expect it to go but being prepared helps enormously in identifying questions which you have seen before and have the knowledge for, but are just worded differently.

Each session will be structured according to what each student needs, it will have a section where we will focus on understanding the question and then answering it and practising the skills learnt. The sessions will primarily focus on the weaknesses and honing the strengths. There will be a structured plan making sure all topics are required within the time frame and the necessary depth. Being good at maths is first understanding what is being asked and then applying knowledge and understanding from other questions to the current one. This means once the student has an understanding of what the question is asking, I will deliver questions which have a different take on the task so that the student is always adapting and not only learning the skills to do the question at hand, but also being able to recognise that they have done a very similar question before.

I found to be the best way to revise and learn maths for me was constant practise of questions. I would sit down and do two questions where I looked at the mark scheme and tried to understand it, and then went and did all of the questions I could find to cement my understanding. Also, with maths I found that usually the papers can be very similar, as there are only a certain number of questions they can ask from the syllabus. This means the more practise and questions you do in revision, the more likely you are to recognise the question in your current exam.
